About
Japani phal, grown in Himachal and in season only from late October to December. This is the non-astringent kind, so there is no waiting and no guesswork: eat it firm, straight from the fridge, sliced like an apple with the skin on. The flesh is dense and honey-sweet with no tartness and no seeds to work around. If you have had a persimmon before that was chalky and dried your mouth out, it was the other sort, picked too early. This one is not that. Four pieces, 800-850 g.
